FERRY-BOAT COLLISION

On Thursday night a light air prevailed from south and east, which was accompanied by a thick fog which settled over our city and bays the entire day, and at sunset became very dense; the progress of the ferry-boats was much impeded, and the navigation of all vessels rendered very difficult and dangerous both by fog, harsh tide and murky weather.  


While the cresent city is packed this time of year, travel has become dangouous. Should this weather continue during the city's celibration there is no doubt that serious accidents to the shipping or about the harbor , though none have been reported as of yet. The Sound boats bound east are all detained in consequence of the fog.

About 6:30 P.M., as the ferry-boat James Watts was making a trip from New Orleans to Algers, she was run into by the Oneota, of the Chambers-street Ferry, by which the gentlemen's cabin was stove in.
There were reported of at least 150 people injured and at least 16 casualties aboard the Oneota alone. Reports of the injured aboard the Watts are still unconfermed.

The pilot of the Watts saw the other boat approaching, and was backing water at the time, or the result of the collision might have been much more serious. The Algers Ferry Company commented that they will commence running to-day. The Watts will probably be repaired by Monday.

Word of Eye Witness state that they saw strange shapes or beings coming in and out of the Fog, and that was the reason for the collision Some sources say.. None of these strange accusations have been concerned.
